White Paper #4
A prolonged field study (14 months) with detailed mass balance showed that struvite formation and recovery directly on digested sludge in a separate reactor needs to include preceding digester struvite formation and the struvite crystal transfer from the digester towards the crystallizer unit. Failure to recover the produced struvite does in addition result in artificial increase in dry matter. Process optimization was developed insuring struvite formation as harvestable grains clearly distinguishable from the primary digester native struvite crystals. Results and insights render objective evaluation of the process possible, putting in correct perspective the economical drivers.
